Vertus High School

Vertus is an all-male charter school in city of Rochester. MMLA and Vertus have been in collaboration since 2015. In winter of 2018, MMLA began the College Exploration Partnership, which focuses on college preparation for students in their senior year. The sessions included panels, breakout discussions, and a campus tour of the University of Rochester. In addition, we worked on personal and professional development with the young men. In the upcoming school year, MMLA looks to continue the partnership and expand to the junior class as well. 

 

Mt. Hope Family Center

Mt. Hope Family Center began as a therapeutic preschool program for children affected by violence in their home or community. At Mt. Hope Family Center, they focus on treating children and helping parents develop the skills they need to understand child development, communicate more effectively, and resolve conflict in non-violent ways. MMLA and Mt Hope Family Center patnership began in Fall 2021 and the sessions have focused on mentoring young children.

Youth and Justice Program

The Youth and Justice Programs consist of several academic program sites within the City of Rochester and nearby areas. They provide services to students within the Rochester City School District and surrounding areas.  MMLA and Youth and Justice began a partnership in Fall 2018. The sessions have included panels, in-depth discussions, and various activities directed towards success.



 

Healthcare and Technology Youth Apprenticeship Program

On April 28, 2018, MMLA partnered with the Healthcare and Technology Youth Apprenticeship Program (HTYAP) to host the "Character Becomes Destiny" Youth Conference. The HTYAP Youth Conference is an annual conference for youth aged 12 to 19, to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to become future leaders. The annual HTYAP Youth Conference is filled with workshops developed and facilitated by youth to educate their peers on life skills necessary to become future leaders and promote positive citizenry in their communities. In addition, the conference promotes the importance of education and applying what they learn at home and in school.

 

Dr. Charles T Lunsford School No. 19

The partnership began in the Fall of 2015. School No. 19 are the youngest group students that MMLA mentors. Members of MMLA tutor and mentor the 5th to 8th graders. Our incentive is for them to have a jump-start ensurance of success upon their transition to high school.

 

University of Rochester - Simon Business School

MMLA and men from the Simon Business School have co-sponsored numerous events throughout the school year. In addition, Simon has assisted in faciliataing the Vertus High School College Expolration Partenership.  On the University of Rochester campus, the Simon students have mentored undergradautes and continues to build on our motto: "As iron sharpens iron so does one man sharpen another…". 

UR BOLD Program

The UR BOLD (Building Outstanding Leadership & Distinction) was a colloboration between Rochester's City School District's Leadership Academy for Young Men and the University of Rochester's Teen Health and Success program. It focused primarily on improving the African-American male and Latino male graduation rates in the Rochester City School District. The program provided mentorship, resource connection, college immersion, and skill-building seminars, which emphasized personal development and career success.
